Which parish or town to choose during an expatriation in Andorra?

Andorra la Vella

Located in the southwestern part of the country, at an altitude of 1013 meters, Andorra la Vella is the capital of the Principality as well as one of the 7 parishes of the territory. With 19,000 inhabitants, the largest Andorran town is the administrative, political and economical center of the country.

The largest town of Andorra

Crossed by the Valira, the main Andorran waterway, the parish of Andorra la Vella houses two very pretty villages: Santa Coloma, famous for its Romanesque church and La Margineda with its famous Roman bridge dating from the 12th century.

Escaldes-Engordany

If you are planning to expatriate to Andorra by staying close to the capital, the parish of Escaldes-Engordany is probably the best solution. Adjoining Andorra la Vella, the Andorran town of the same name is also famous for its activities.

With Innu / Caldea, it also houses the largest spa center in Europe, the paradise of relaxation in contact with water in its most varied forms: various baths, steam, hot tub, etc.

The mountain village Engolasters - the walk around the lake is superb! - is located in this parish which is also a part of nature. A UNESCO World Heritage Site testifies the sublime valley of Madriu as one of the most beautiful of all.

Encamp

With its central position, the parish of Encamp has many assets. Its territory hosts famous villages and towns of Andorra, like Encamp, Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa.

Expatriate in Andorra and enjoy the largest ski area in the Pyrenees!

These two last villages are essential places for winter sports in the Principality. They are part of the famous resort Grandvalira, which has more than 210 km of downhill ski slopes!

Connecting Encamp to the Crest of Cortals, the Funicamp is one of the largest cable cars in Europe (6,200 meters in length).

Note that the Andorran town of Pas de la Casa is also recognized for the quality of its shopping and the opportunity to do excellent business (thanks to the low level of taxation of products) in many areas: alcohol, cigarettes, food , perfumes, jewelry, ready-to-wear, etc.

Canillo

With its 121 km², the parish of Canillo is the largest in the Principality, but one of the least populated (less than 5,000 inhabitants, including nearly 2,000 in the town Canillo). The villages of Soldeu and El Tarter are also very pleasant, as well as Meritxell, home to the famous Sanctuary of Notre Dame.

Expatriate in Andorra on this land of the Northeast that will make you discover real natural treasures, such as the majestic valley of Incles. In the parish of Canillo, winter and summer mountain activities are also present as Soldeu and El Tarter are two popular spots in the Grandvalira ski area.

Ordino

With La Cortinada, Ordino is the most populated town of this parish which also includes those of Llorts or El Serrat. The famous ski resort of Arcalis is one of its assets.

This region of the northwest of the country is not distinguished by the presence of the Andorran towns but by a geography that will attract mountain lovers and those who wish to expatriate in Andorra for the contemplation of authentic landscapes. Some of the highest summits of the Principality are: the peaks of Font Blanca (2,903 m), Casamanya (2,750 m) and Estanyo (2,915 m).

La Massana

In the extension of the parish of Ordino, La Massana is plebiscite for its remarkable frame of life.

Located for the most part in mountainous territory, it has made the Andorran town of La Massana its capital. This gives the access to Andorra la Vella in about twenty minutes. This parish offers somehow the benefits of the city and the mountains!

In this respect, let’s not forget the villages of Pal and Arinsal, the must-see places of the Vallnord ski resort.

Sant Julia de Loria

The parish and the Andorran city of Sant Julia de Loria have a typical charm of the country. Located in the south of the country near the border with Spain, they are very pleasant to live in, especially when one decides to expatriate in Andorra with all the family!

Indeed, the Naturlandia Park and its many activities (Airtrekk, Zipline) will delight children and adults as well as lovers of Nordic skiing, with the cross-country ski resort of La Rabassa.

You probably now have a more precise vision of the parishes and cities of Andorra for the choice of your future residence! Be aware that the Principality is a very small area (less than 500 km²) and you will have plenty of time to discover the entire country regardless of your place of residency.
